Qualifications and memberships

Cybele is a highly experienced Osteopath who is passionate about accurately diagnosing and getting to the root cause of her patients’ issues. She has strong experience treating people of all ages and walks of life, including babies, children and expectant mothers (and fathers). After graduating from RMIT in 2001 (with Hons 1C) she has practiced in Sydney, Hong Kong and Perth.

For those new to this profession, Osteopathy is a form of hands-on manual therapy that aims to promote health and wellbeing by focusing primarily on the musculoskeletal system and its interrelationship with other systems of the body, including the nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic systems.

Osteopathy is AHPRA regulated, covered by most health insurers (dependent on cover). Osteopaths work closely with other health practitioners including Naturopaths, GPs, Physiotherapists and Acupuncturists to provide holistic team-based patient care.

Approach to treatment

Cybele enjoys treating all manner of musculoskeletal ills, including headaches, neck, back and joint pain. She loves the challenge of chronic, unexplained, stubborn or niggly pains or problems.

Cybele’s treatment begins with a comprehensive history followed by examination which may include orthopaedic assessment (joint or tissue palpation and motion testing) and Osteopathic examination (specific functional testing). Cybele will then explain a working diagnosis (the likely reason for the problem) and work with her patients to make a plan for treatment and management, this may include referral for imaging or other treatment where necessary. Cybele’s treatment may include hands on techniques which are primarily gentle and subtle and some which are more direct and firm. She prioritises patient preference while working towards an effective and lasting outcome. She will also give stretching, exercise or postural advice where necessary.

Cybele’s interests include:

  • Musculoskeletal issues; acute and chronic (neck, back, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle pain etc.)
  • Headaches
  • Reduced musculoskeletal function – “just getting old” is not a diagnosis!
  • Pregnancy related complaints
  • Childhood/ paediatric issues (torticollis, concerns with motor delays, postural problems, sporting injuries)
  • Exploring evidence informed hands-on treatment to improve gut function and stress regulation.

Cybele has a particular interest in stress, how it is reflected in the body, and exploring ways to positively influence the body’s stress response through physical means. She is also fascinated by the interplay between the musculoskeletal system and the gut; how digestive problems may relate to mechanical dysfunction in the gut.

Being a constant learner, Cybele recently completed a Masters of Biomedical Science (with Distinction) and is hoping to follow that with a PhD when time permits.

Cybele ensures her patients have an understanding of likely factors at play in their condition and their own role in the healing process. She loves her job and feels grateful to be a part of the Remede team.
