The Owner’s Vision

A New Page Between Medicine and Wellness, with Dr Richard Newton

About me

This page is where I share more of my story - as a doctor, the owner of Remede, and someone who has spent over 30 years thinking deeply about how healthcare can be clearer, calmer, and more human.

You’ll also find articles, short films, and reflections on integrative medicine, longevity, and everyday health, the same ideas that inform my clinical work and the way Remede has been built.

Running through all of it is a philosophy I call The Third Way: a considered approach that brings together rigorous Western medicine, integrative therapies, and genuine human connection, without dogma, noise, or extremes.

The Third Way, with Dr Richard Newton.

Over the past three decades I’ve worked across many areas of medicine, hospital and general practice, remote and urban settings, in both the UK and Australia, and within military and civilian systems. I now practise as a general practitioner at Remede, working in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team that includes naturopaths and other allied health practitioners.

Across all of these environments, one truth has remained constant: people want to be heard, understood, and guided, not rushed, reduced, or managed by protocol alone.

My role is to help people make clear, well-considered decisions about their health, supported by a trusted, multidisciplinary team and grounded in both evidence and lived experience.

The Third Way reflects how I practise medicine: a deliberate balance of conventional medical science with integrative and lifestyle-based approaches, applied thoughtfully and individually.
It’s not about doing more, it’s about doing what matters, well.

This page brings together the ideas, stories, and practical insights that shape my work and the care we provide at Remede.

Clarity

Understanding what truly matters for your health, and what doesn’t.

Integration

Drawing on the strengths of Western medicine, integrative therapies, and appropriate advanced testing.

Human Connection

Listening carefully. Joining the dots. Seeing the whole person, not just the problem.

About Me

My journey through medicine has been shaped not only by formal training and experience, but by reflection, curiosity, and a desire to practise in a way that more closely reflects the needs of my patients.

Over more than three decades, I’ve worked across an unusually wide range of medical environments. As I’ve matured as a clinician, I’ve become increasingly aware of the quiet frustration many people experience when their health concerns don’t fit neatly into a single diagnosis or treatment pathway. I’ve also seen how Western medicine, despite its power and technological sophistication, can begin to reach its limits when used in isolation, sometimes leaving patients searching elsewhere for answers.

My interest in integrative medicine grew not from a rejection of conventional practice, but from a wish to build bridges between disciplines that have often existed in opposition to one another. By integrative, I mean a considered and disciplined marriage of Western medical science with evidence-informed natural and lifestyle-based approaches - applied thoughtfully, safely, and with clear clinical structure.

As a clinician, I value careful listening, sound judgement, and knowing both when to act and when not to. I’m wary of extremes, whether that’s over-medicalisation on one hand, or uncritical wellness trends on the other.

Today, my work at Remede reflects this philosophy. I’m fortunate to practise alongside a multidisciplinary team who share these values and are equally committed to thoughtful, evidence-informed, person-centred care.

I continue to learn, reflect, and refine how I practise, because the craft of good medicine, in my view, is never static.
