Qualifications, Memberships and Experience
Dr Kaur is an experienced doctor who takes a truly patient centred approach to patient care. She has a strong interest in the bio-psycho-social approach to manage a wide variety of health concerns and to promote good long-term health. Whilst she is a medical doctor who practices general medicine, Dr Kaur also has a keen interest in an integrative and holistic approach to patient care, as an ideal complement to traditional Western Medicine.
Dr Kaur graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Western Australia in 2008 and has worked as a medical practitioner for over a decade. She has a wide range of medical experience, having worked in various roles ranging from being a registrar in Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Neurosurgery and also working in General Practice. This experience has given her exceptional diagnostic and treatment skills in all areas of general medicine.
Prior to completing her medical degree, Dr Kaur worked at the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, which inspired her to complete her Masters in Public Health at UWA, with to goal to help to promote optimal health public policies. Dr Kaur has since worked in a number of public health and occupational health roles including with the Department of Veteran Affairs, Insurance Companies and Hollywood Hospital.
In addition to her work at Remède, Dr Kaur works as an Occupational Health Consultant and at Hollywood Hospital as the After-Hours Doctor in Charge, which covers the whole hospital and includes supervising junior doctors and following up on concerns from staff, patients and family members.
At Remède, Dr Kaur practices as a holistic doctor, not as a GP. This means that while patients cannot receive a Medicare rebate for their consultations, they are able to be referred for testing and specialist referral through Medicare. Dr Kaur’s consultations are much longer than standard medical practitioner consultations, allowing her to take the time to be thorough and listen to her patients’ issues and fully investigate and treat the underlying cause of her patient’s health concerns.
Areas of specialty and approach to treatment
Dr Kaur enjoys getting to know each patient and really understanding what their health concerns are. Her approach is patient-focused and involves undertaking a thorough history and medical examinations, as well as performing a variety of pathology investigations if required. Once the root cause of a patients’ health problems has been identified, Dr Kaur will devise an individualised treatment plan for each patient and will work together with a patient’s other healthcare providers, when required, to ensure comprehensive and optimal care.
Dr Kaur has a wide range of experience in treating a variety of health concerns in men, women, children and babies. She has a special interest in mental health, including the treatment of stress, anxiety, and depression. Dr Kaur has had specialist mental health training in both Australia and Japan, and she is also qualified to refer patients for mental health care plans (MHCP), which gives her patients a rebate when they see a psychologist.
Dr Kaur strongly believes in promoting a good work-life-balance, while being passionate about the things she enjoys in life and sees this an extension to practising good holistic medicine. Outside of work, Dr Kaur enjoys travelling, learning languages and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
Dr Kaur’s caring and whole-person approach, together with her wide-range of experience, makes her a valued addition to the Remède practitioner team.
