Dysbiosis is the term given to the imbalance between the “good” and “bad” (dysbiotic) bacteria that line the digestive, urinary and genital tracts. When the dysbiotic organisms, such as Candida albicans, overgrow in numbers greater than the “good bacteria” such as Lactobacillus, Bifido bacteria, E.coli, and Enterococci, the “bad bacteria” can cause a number of symptoms. These include thrush, tinea, jock itch, anal rashes, flatulence and bloating, recurrent urinary tract infections, allergy symptoms and general symptoms such as fatigue and lowered resistance to infections.
The first step your Remède practitioner will usually take to determine if your good:bad bacteria are out of balance is to do a urinary indicans test. If this is strongly positive and you have severe gut symtoms, then your practitioner may order a Gastrointestinal Function Stool Test (GIFx) to ascertain which bacteria are out of balance and if any other parasites or yeast/fungi are present in the gut. They may also order an Intestinal Permeability (IP) test, which indicates if the bacteria have damaged the gastrointestinal wall lining, which affects absorption and permeability.
The urinary indican test requires a simple urine collection that needs to be collected first thing in the morning, after preparing by avoiding some foods, drinks and medications. The urine is then tested by Remède clinical assistants and results are usually known within 10-15 minutes.
A Gastrointestinal Function Stool Test is a stool test and patients are provided with a kit to complete the collection in the comfort of their home, which is then picked up by a courier to be delivered directly to the laboratory.
An Intestinal Permeability Test requires urine sampling after the ingestion of special test solutions. A collection kit is provided for the patient for the test procedure and collection, which is done in the comfort of their home and then posted directly to the laboratory.
