Qualifications and memberships
Tammy is a registered psychologist with The Psychology Board of Australia and is an associate member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Tammy also undertakes extensive ongoing professional development and has over 15 years of counselling experience.
Tammy completed her Bachelor of Psychology in 1994 and has worked in the private, corporate and disability sectors undertaking psychological counselling, vocational and career counselling, as well as mediation and coaching work. Tammy has worked extensively with people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, adjustment issues and self-esteem issues.
As a registered Psychologist, clients can be referred to Tammy by their GP on a Medicare ‘Mental Healthcare Plan’, which makes them eligible for a Medicare rebate on their consultations. Tammy is also a ‘Beyond Blue’ accredited facilitator for depression.
Areas of specialty and approach to treatment
Tammy’s approach to counselling is goal-oriented and collaborative. She works from a positive psychology framework, encouraging and supporting clients to take control of their situation and lives. Tammy works with clients to identify and agree on the issues they are facing and the actions and strategies to assist to resolve these. In assisting to resolve the varying issues that clients present with, Tammy works with them to develop long and short-term goals, focusing on an individual’s strengths and taking a proactive approach.
Tammy works with adults, couples and adolescents with a range of issues, including anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, weight management, personality disorders, relationship difficulties, stress management, life transitions, body image issues, low self-esteem issues, conflict resolution and personal development.
Tammy has a strong interest in working with people at all stages of life to enhance motivation and clarify and pursue valued life goals. Counselling can be particularly helpful during times of change or when people are ready to address unhelpful habits, address eating or weight issues, improve their relationships and discover what is important to them.
Tammy is also an experienced coach, and she works with individuals to help them to get more out of their professional, work and personal lives.
Tammy firmly believes that everyone has the innate capacity to grow and change, and she works with her clients to build strengths and identify and work through obstacles to change. She creates a supportive and respectful therapeutic environment where people can work through difficulties and increase their capacity for personal growth and fulfilling relationships.
In her approach to treatment, Tammy draws on her wealth of clinical experience and she utilises a number of therapeutic approaches and psychological therapies, which is always tailored to the individual, to assist clients with positive outcomes. She is committed to an individualised, flexible and responsive approach to working with her clients and her sincere, warm and caring approach makes her a valued member of Remède’s clinical team of practitioners.
