Her first career in medicine was in intensive care as a registered nurse, before qualifying as a naturopathic medicine practitioner in 1992 from the Perth Academy of Natural Therapies with the prestigious award of Dux of Studies. Julia has been in full-time practice since she graduated 18 years ago, running her own successful clinic in Subiaco, until she joined Remède in 2009.
In addition to her Naturopathic medicine qualifications, Julia also holds a Bachelor of Science (Molecular Biology) from Glasgow University and is a Registered Nurse from Guys Hospital (London). Areas of specialty and approach to treatment
Julia has a special interest in general naturopathic medicine – including the treatment of men, women and children (including infants). She has particular expertise in women’s health and has worked extensively with fertility, menopause and hormonal problems. Stress management, immune dysfunction and infant health are also areas of special interest.
Julia takes a very personal approach to her work and to her patients, developing treatment programs that are specific to the individual patient and their needs. She believes patient education is essential and she spends time explaining what the root cause of a patient’s health problems are, so that they feel informed and empowered to take an active role in their own health.
Julia’s focus during her consultations is to listen and to understand her patients and their health concerns and symptoms. This enables her to develop a comprehensive picture of her patient’s health, to successfully ascertain and address the cause of their ill health. Julia enjoys working in partnership with her patients – assisting and supporting them to achieve their own optimum health and well-being.
During a consultation, patients can expect their full symptom picture to be assessed, together with iridology, tongue and nail diagnosis to assess deficiencies. These assessments are always undertaken in conjunction with Cellular Health Testing, which measures specific cellular health parameters (such as body composition, toxicity, biological age etc). Julia also conducts other assessments if required, such as salivary hormone testing, blood testing, gastrointestinal testing and other assessments. Julia’s thorough approach allows her to make a comprehensive assessment of a patient’s health issue, from which she develops their individual treatment plan.
Individualised patient treatment programs include nutrition advice, lifestyle counseling and prescription-strength natural medicine supplementation, which may incorporate minerals, vitamins and herbal medicines.
Julia’s unique blend of qualifications and wealth of experience in both natural and conventional medicines makes her one of Perth’s most sought-after practitioners and a very valued member of the Remède team.
