Homoeopathy

what is homoeopathy

Homoeopathy is a system of medicine developed over 200 years ago by the German physician and chemist, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.

Homoeopathy is a form of natural medicine that utilises minute and diluted doses of extracts derived from nature, including plant and mineral compounds. All medicines are prepared according to strict guidelines set out in international pharmacopoeia, and under the control of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia.

It can be difficult to understand how homoeopathy works,  but the very well-known and familiar principle that underpins homoeopathy is that of “like cures like”. This is based on a law of nature, set by Hippocrates (known as “the Father of Medicine”), that substances that produce illness or symptoms in healthy people can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick person, if given or administered in diluted and “potentised dose.

While homoeopathy is less-known in Australia, it is commonly used all over the world and is recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a valid form of healthcare. Indeed, there are five homoeopathic hospitals in Britain, including the London Homoeopathic Hospital and homoeopathic services are available under the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. In Europe, homoeopathy is valued as a treatment choice and in France, the most popular cold and flu medicine is a homoeopathic formulation. In India there are estimated to be 10,000 medical doctors who use homoeopathic medicine to treat their patients, in conjunction with standard medical care.

what can homoeopathy treat

Homoeopathic treatment strengthens a person’s health, acting as a catalyst, stimulating and directing the body’s ability to heal itself, whilst also resolving the underlying susceptibility to disease. In this sense Homoeopathy addresses the complexity of health, which includes the physical and the mental spheres.

Homoeopathic medicine is a gentle but potent therapy in its ability to stimulate a change in a person’s condition. It is very safe, hence its popularity with in the treatment of babies and children – not to mention animals.

Homoeopathy can be used to help a wide range of health concerns, including:
